MESA, Ariz. — According to Mesa Police, officers responded to a disturbance call around 6:00 p.m. after reports that a man was threatening someone with a gun inside an apartment. iSkyNews.com spoke with Mesa Police Detective Dreyer, who said the initial information coming in was conflicting, making it difficult for officers to determine exactly who was threatening whom. However, it was quickly confirmed that the suspect was a male.
As officers were preparing to make contact at the scene, the suspect got into a vehicle and drove off. A short pursuit began and ultimately ended near N. Winterhaven and McKellips Road, where officers took the male suspect into custody.
Inside the apartment, officers located a woman who had sustained injuries but declined transport to the hospital. A 1-year-old baby was also inside and was not injured.
Mesa Police say the suspect will face multiple felony charges after he is medically cleared at the hospital. Detectives expect to remain on scene for an extended period to process evidence, noting that a large crowd of neighbors made portions of the investigation more difficult.
Police also responded to a separate report of a gunshot at a nearby apartment around 7:30 p.m. Detective Dreyer confirmed this was determined to be an accidental discharge, and no injuries were reported.
Mesa Police say there are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the community.
