Florida Officials Monitoring Invest 91L as Heavy Rain, Flash Flooding Threat Increases
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida emergency officials are closely monitoring Invest 91L, a developing weather disturbance in the eastern Gulf that could bring heavy rainfall and the threat of flash flooding across portions of the state over the next several days.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management's State Emergency Response Team (FLSERT) announced Saturday that it is actively tracking the system as it slowly moves northward or north-northwestward across the Gulf.
According to the National Hurricane Center, the area of low pressure could develop into a tropical depression within the next couple of days.
Forecasters say the system is expected to produce 2 to 4 inches of rainfall, with isolated totals of up to 6 inches possible along portions of Florida's Gulf Coast. While strong winds may remain limited, officials warn that heavy rainfall alone can produce dangerous and potentially life-threatening flash flooding.
State emergency officials are urging Floridians to prepare now by:
- Monitoring the latest weather forecasts.
- Having multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
- Never driving through flooded roadways — "Turn Around, Don't Drown."
- Following guidance from local emergency management officials.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed as forecasts evolve and to be prepared for changing weather conditions over the coming days.
