Two Dead, Two Injured in Mesa Shooting; Police Identify Suspect and Release New Details

MESA, Ariz. — Mesa Police have released new information as detectives continue investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of two people and left two innocent bystanders injured Sunday evening.

Detectives have identified the suspect as 47-year-old Kevin Richardson.
According to Mesa Police, Richardson was wearing a tactical-style helmet and tactical vest during the incident and fired numerous rounds, including several in the direction of the Mesa Police Department Air Unit as officers responded to the scene.
Investigators recovered a rifle near Richardson, and preliminary evidence indicates he later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police also confirmed that, in addition to the suspect and the victim—both of whom died during the incident—two innocent bystanders, an adult and a minor, were struck by gunfire. Investigators say the pair were inside a residence adjacent to where the shooting occurred when bullets entered the home. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives continue working to determine what led to the shooting and have not yet confirmed the relationship, if any, between Richardson and the deceased victim.
The investigation remains active, and Mesa Police say additional information will be released as it becomes available.

MESA, Ariz. — Mesa Police homicide detectives are investigating a deadly shooting that left two people dead and two others injured Sunday evening in a residential neighborhood.
According to the Mesa Police Department, officers responded at approximately 8:00 p.m. on June 28, 2026, after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire near Lindsay Road and Brown Road.

When officers arrived, they found four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts, two victims were pronounced deceased at the scene. The conditions of the two surviving victims have not yet been released.
Mesa Police Homicide Detectives have taken over the investigation and are actively working to determine what led up to the shooting and identify those involved.
Police emphasized that no Mesa Police officers discharged their firearms during the incident. Investigators also stated the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims, information regarding a suspect, or a possible motive as detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
The investigation remains active, and additional details are expected to be released as they become available.
