As a precaution, residents from several nearby homes were evacuated while utility crews worked to stop the leak. Power to multiple homes in the neighborhood was shut off to eliminate potential ignition sources during the emergency.

Several ambulances were staged nearby in the event medical assistance was needed, although there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The response included multiple fire engines, the Fire Chief, a Battalion Chief, the department's Air Light Unit, and a Rehab Unit.

The Fire Chief responded to oversee the overall emergency operation, ensuring resources were deployed effectively and that the incident was managed safely. The Battalion Chief directed firefighters on the ground and coordinated operations between fire crews, law enforcement, and utility personnel. The Air Light Unit provided specialized lighting, scene support equipment, and additional power resources if the operation continued into the evening. The Rehab Unit was positioned to provide firefighters and other emergency personnel with water, cooling, medical monitoring, and a safe place to recover while working in the Florida heat and around a potentially hazardous incident. Ambulances remained staged nearby in case anyone required immediate medical attention.

Around 3:20 p.m., firefighters carefully dug around the damaged underground gas line to expose the rupture and provide access for repairs. During the operation, crews placed a specialized clamp over the broken gas line, significantly reducing the flow of natural gas while permanent repairs were completed.

Natural gas leaks present a serious hazard because the gas is highly flammable. If natural gas accumulates and comes into contact with a spark, open flame, electrical equipment, or another ignition source, it can quickly ignite, potentially causing a fire or explosion. For that reason, emergency responders evacuated nearby homes, shut off electrical service to affected residences, established a safety perimeter, and closely monitored the scene until the leak could be safely controlled.

The gas line was reportedly damaged after construction crews accidentally struck an underground utility line. Residents were asked to remain away from the affected area until emergency crews determined it was safe to return home.

The incident remains under investigation.  At approximately 3:50 PM the leak was secured.
