DAVENPORT, FL — What was intended to be a student game turned into a chaotic scene at Davenport High School on Friday, April 17, resulting in a campus-wide lockdown and the arrest of four students.

The disruption began in the school parking lot when four students were observed waving objects that appeared to be handguns. A witness immediately reported the sighting to a teacher, triggering emergency lockdown protocols and a swift response from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

Following an immediate investigation, authorities located the four individuals off-campus. The "weapons" were identified as realistic-looking water guns being used for a popular game known as "Senior Assassin," where students "eliminate" one another with water.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd commended the quick thinking of the witness and the efficiency of the school’s safety response but emphasized that such actions have serious consequences.

“As a result of their actions, students, staff, and parents were thrown into a panic, school was disrupted, and a prompt law enforcement response was merited," said Sheriff Grady Judd. "We take these things very seriously, and we are going to hold people accountable.”

Charges and Accountability

All four participants—three 18-year-olds and one 17-year-old—were arrested and charged with Disruption of a School Function, a second-degree misdemeanor.

While the lockdown was lifted quickly and normal school operations resumed shortly after, officials are using the incident as a reminder of the dangers of brandishing realistic-looking replica firearms in public spaces, especially on school grounds.
