Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested After Violent Stabbing in Mesa, Captured in Nevada

MESA, AZ — A suspect accused of a violent stabbing following a minor traffic collision in Mesa has been arrested out of state after fleeing Arizona, according to information provided to iSkyNews.com by the Mesa Police Department.

Mesa Police say the incident occurred on Friday, February 20, 2026, around 9:30 p.m., when officers were dispatched to a reported hit-and-run near the 4000 block of East Broadway Road. While en route, officers received additional information indicating the situation may have escalated into a robbery.

When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult female victim suffering from significant injuries, including multiple stab wounds and a broken tooth.

Investigators say the victim had been involved in a minor vehicle collision with 30-year-old Joseph Sellers. After both parties pulled over to exchange information, Sellers allegedly attacked the victim without provocation, repeatedly stabbing her before stealing her cell phone and fleeing the scene prior to officers arriving.

Mesa Police detectives quickly launched an intensive investigation and identified Sellers as the suspect. Authorities later learned he had fled the state of Arizona.

Through coordination with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Sellers and his vehicle were eventually located in Las Vegas, Nevada. During the investigation, detectives also discovered that the appearance of Sellers’ vehicle had been altered following the incident, likely in an attempt to evade detection.

Sellers was taken into custody and extradited back to Mesa, where he was booked into jail on multiple charges, including:

Attempted Second-Degree Murder
Armed Robbery
Burglary
