Gas Line Struck at Cox Communications Building in Mesa Prompts Evacuation and Road Shutdown

MESA, AZ — A construction accident caused a gas line rupture at the Cox Communications building in Mesa Friday morning, prompting a full evacuation and road closures in the area.

According to Mesa Fire and Medical, construction crews struck a 1-inch gas line around 9:00 a.m. at the Cox Communications facility located at 4120 E. Auto Valley Drive. Fire officials reported an audible hissing sound and a very strong odor of natural gas immediately following the strike.

The iSkyNews.com news team was on scene and could smell the gas upon arrival. Several individuals who work inside the Cox Communications building told iSkyNews.com they were evacuated immediately as a precaution while emergency crews secured the area.

Mesa Fire and Medical responded quickly, establishing a safety perimeter and shutting down nearby roadways to keep the public clear while the situation was assessed. Fire officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.

As of 9:36 a.m., the scene was turned over to the City of Mesa, which successfully clamped the damaged gas line, stopping the leak and mitigating the hazard.

Authorities say the incident was handled swiftly and safely, and crews remained on scene to ensure conditions were secure before allowing normal operations to resume.

Residents and drivers were advised to avoid the area during the response. Stay with iSkyNews.com for updates and continued local coverage.
