Teen Suspect Arrested After Assault, Vehicle Dump, and Police Chase Near Red Mountain Park

Mesa, AZ — Mesa Police arrested a teenage suspect Friday evening after a violent assault and a large-area search that stretched from a Circle K parking lot to Red Mountain Park and Red Mountain High School.

The incident began around 8:30 p.m. when the teen male — described as a 17-year-old white male, 5'6", with brown curly hair — physically assaulted two women in the parking lot of the Circle K on N. Power Road, according to Mesa Police. Officers arrived and spoke with both victims, later reviewing video footage confirming the teen assaulted both women and stole one of their phones before fleeing in a white Honda Civic.

The suspect left before officers arrived, but was located shortly after by the Real Time Crime Center. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the teen fled in his vehicle, then abandoned it and ran on foot near the seminary building next to Red Mountain High School.

Police later confirmed there was an active order of protection involving the suspect, prompting officers to widen the search. Witnesses reported seeing him running toward Red Mountain Park, leading Mesa Police to establish a high-profile perimeter around the park, the school grounds, and nearby intersections including Sunvalley and Brown and Brown and 80th Street.

Officers searched the area by vehicle and on foot, eventually apprehending the suspect near Sunnyvale and Brown Road, just east of Red Mountain High School.

After being taken into custody, the teen began experiencing chest pains, prompting Mesa Fire & Medical crews and an ambulance to respond and evaluate him at the scene.

Mesa Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are expected.
