MESA, Ariz. — At approximately 4:50 p.m., emergency crews responded to Falcon Field Airport after a small training aircraft veered off the runway and into the dirt. The airport is located at 4800 E. Falcon Drive in Mesa.
According to Mesa Fire and Medical, the plane was a trainer with both a flight instructor and a student onboard. Fortunately, neither occupant was injured. Both were able to exit the aircraft safely and were evaluated at the scene. The plane is expected to be towed from the runway area.
The original dispatch came in as an ALT 2 Aircraft Emergency, which indicates a possible aircraft issue requiring precautionary response from fire crews. It was later upgraded to an ALT 3, signifying a confirmed aircraft incident with potential hazards. However, since there was no fire, smoke, or medical need, the call was quickly downgraded, and Mesa Fire Station 208 handled the scene.
Mesa Fire & Medical and Mesa Police worked together to ensure the area was safe and that no other airport operations were impacted.
Thank you to our first responders for their quick and coordinated response.
