KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The tense hostage situation at the Heritage Park Inn ended peacefully Monday evening after the suspect, 49-year-old Mark Anthony Vazquez (5/16/77), surrendered to deputies without incident following more than five hours of negotiations.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Vazquez was taken into custody around 5:45 p.m. and has been charged with aggravated battery and failure to register as a sex offender within the county. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.

Authorities have now clarified that the initial victim, 52-year-old Gamaliel Tricoche-Garay (10/9/73), is not Vazquez’s biological brother but a close friend who referred to him as one. Investigators say that on the night of October 12, Vazquez allegedly bound the victim’s hands and feet to a chair and repeatedly beat and cut him with a knife. The victim convinced Vazquez to release him the following day, at which point he fled the room and called 911 from the hotel lobby. He was treated for visible injuries and later released from Osceola Regional Hospital.
After the victim escaped, Vazquez barricaded himself in the hotel room with a 74-year-old family friend, Nellie Perez, refusing to let her leave. Crisis negotiators from the Sheriff’s Office worked for hours to de-escalate the situation. During negotiations, Vazquez requested a pizza and a wheelchair for Ms. Perez — both of which were delivered to the door.
As negotiations continued, Osceola County’s SWAT team, with assistance from Orange County SWAT, deployed a Long-Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) to communicate surrender commands. The device broadcasted messages urging Vazquez to come out peacefully. After several minutes, Vazquez opened the door and surrendered while deputies safely assisted Ms. Perez into the wheelchair.
Vazquez was booked into the Osceola County Jail Monday evening. His booking photo has been released by the Sheriff’s Office.
This incident remains under active investigation.
