Officer-Involved Shooting in Mesa Leaves Suspect Wounded
MESA, AZ – July 11, 2025 – An officer-involved shooting occurred this evening in Mesa, leaving a male suspect wounded, according to Mesa Police Detective Giles. The incident took place just after 5:00 PM in the area of 350 E 5th Avenue.
Mesa Police officers responded to reports of shots fired, with multiple witnesses describing an adult male outside an apartment complex, banging on doors and armed with a handgun. Upon arrival, two officers located a man matching the description.
Both officers observed the suspect was armed with a handgun and issued clear and reasonable commands for him to comply. However, the man reportedly failed to obey these commands, leading to an officer-involved shooting at approximately 5:05 PM.
The suspect, identified as a 30-year-old male whose identity is being withheld at this time, was taken into custody. The handgun he was observed with was recovered at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds and is currently listed in stable condition.
Only one officer discharged their duty weapon during the incident. No officers or other individuals were injured.
The critical force incident is now under investigation by the Gilbert Police Department, operating as part of the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team. All inquiries regarding the officer-involved shooting investigation should be directed to the Gilbert Police Department. Questions related to the initial call for service will remain with the Mesa Police Department.
