Mesa, Arizona — According to Mesa Fire & Rescue, a deadly crash early Saturday morning shut down part of the US 60 freeway in Mesa, leaving one person dead and causing major delays for drivers heading east.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), the crash happened just after 6 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of US 60 near Country Club Drive. Several vehicles were involved, including a motorcycle. Sadly, troopers confirmed that one person was killed in the collision.
A motorcycle was seen lying damaged in the middle of the freeway, a harsh reminder of the severity of the accident.

For several hours, eastbound lanes of the freeway were completely closed while crews worked to investigate and clear the scene. The good news for morning commuters: the freeway reopened around 9:30 a.m. Westbound lanes were not affected and stayed open throughout the morning.
Right now, details about what led up to the crash are still limited. Authorities have not yet said whether speed or impairment played a role, and the investigation is ongoing.
