Mesa, Arizona — An early morning house fire broke out in Mesa today, prompting quick action from emergency crews and a successful evacuation of the home’s residents and pets.

Around 9:30 a.m., Mesa Fire & Rescue responded to reports of smoke filling a home. According to officials, the homeowner quickly noticed the house filling with smoke and called for help. Inside the home were seven people, two dogs, and one cat — all of whom safely evacuated before fire crews arrived on the scene.

When Mesa Fire & Rescue crews got to the home, they confirmed smoke was present throughout the house. Firefighters determined that the cause of the smoke was a malfunctioning air conditioning unit. Multiple engine companies, along with the Mesa Battalion Chief, responded to tackle the incident swiftly.

Mesa Police Department also responded, briefly closing nearby roadways to allow firefighters safe access to the scene. Thankfully, the situation was brought under control quickly, and no injuries were reported.

At this time, Mesa Fire & Rescue has confirmed that all units are back in service, and the roadways have reopened.
