Mesa, AZ — Mesa Fire & Rescue crews jumped into action this afternoon after an aircraft flying over Mesa reported smoke inside the cockpit.

The call came in around 12:32 p.m. from Falcon Field Tower, advising that the aircraft was mid-flight when the pilot noticed smoke filling the cockpit. Station 208 quickly relayed the information to dispatch, and a full emergency response was launched. Crews responded immediately, including a Battalion Chief, Foam Truck, and multiple engines heading to Falcon Field Airport.

However, shortly after the initial alert, the situation was downgraded to an Alert 1. The pilot updated that there wasn’t visible smoke but rather "a burning smell" in the cockpit. With that update, most of the responding units were released from the scene, leaving just Engine 208 and Foam 208 to standby for the landing.

Thankfully, the aircraft touched down safely at 12:38 p.m. without any issues.

No injuries were reported, and all fire units returned to service shortly after.
