BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A driver was killed Thursday afternoon following a fiery crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 95 in Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:25 p.m. on I-95 northbound at mile marker 232, just north of Deering Parkway.

According to FHP, a 2020 tractor-trailer was traveling northbound in the center lane behind a 2004 Volvo truck, also in the center lane.

Investigators say the driver of the semi-truck failed to slow for traffic ahead, swerved left, and the front right portion of the tractor-trailer struck the rear left side of the Volvo truck.

The impact caused the semi-truck to run off the roadway to the left, collide with the inside shoulder guardrail, overturn, and become engulfed in flames.

Fatality and Injuries

The driver of the semi-truck was pronounced deceased on scene. Their identity has not yet been released, pending notification and confirmation by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The driver of the Volvo truck, identified as a 23-year-old female from Lauderhill, and her passenger, a 49-year-old male from Plantation, were not injured and remained on scene. Both were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Trooper Provencher is the crash investigator, with Corporal Wenzel assigned as the homicide investigator. Authorities say the crash remains under investigation as they work to determine all contributing factors.

Drivers in the area experienced traffic disruptions while crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the scene.
