Severe Thunderstorms Expected This Afternoon and Evening Across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia
Jacksonville, FL – March 31, 2025 — The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Risk Alert for much of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia today, warning residents to prepare for potentially dangerous weather conditions.
The alert covers Monday afternoon and evening, with forecasters highlighting the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms, bringing damaging wind gusts between 40 and 70 miles per hour, hail, locally heavy rainfall, and even the threat of isolated tornadoes.

Areas under heightened risk include Jacksonville, Lake City, Waycross, St. Simons Island, and surrounding communities. According to the severe weather outlook map, portions of Southeast Georgia are currently under a Level 3 (Enhanced Risk), with adjacent areas in Level 2 (Slight Risk) and Level 1 (Marginal Risk) zones.
“Now is the time to review your severe weather plan and make sure you have a way to receive warnings,” said a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “These storms could develop quickly and bring hazardous conditions, especially during the evening commute.”
Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, have multiple ways to receive weather warnings (such as NOAA Weather Radios, mobile alerts, or apps), and avoid travel during active storms if possible.
The iSkyNews UAS Weather Team will continue to monitor conditions throughout the day. Updates and aerial coverage will be available as storms develop.
