HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – A crash on I-75 Monday afternoon left one driver seriously injured after his car slammed into the back of a tow truck near the US-301 exit according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 2:12 PM when a 23-year-old Riverview man driving a Honda Accord drifted out of his lane and onto the paved shoulder. That’s when he crashed into the rear of a Ford F550 flatbed tow truck. The impact sent the Honda spinning back into the northbound lanes before coming to a stop.
The driver of the Honda suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the tow truck driver, a 41-year-old man from Tampa, was unharmed.
Officials haven’t said yet what caused the driver to leave his lane, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Traffic in the area was backed up as emergency crews responded to the scene.
