Parole Denied for Yolanda Saldivar Convicted Murderer of Tejano Star Selena Quintanilla

Austin, TX. - According to a formal statement from the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, Yolanda Saldivar, the woman convicted in 1995 for the murder of beloved Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, has been denied parole during her initial review process.

Saldivar, who was sentenced to life in prison for Murder with a Deadly Weapon, became eligible for parole consideration on March 30, 2025, after serving 30 years behind bars. In keeping with standard procedure, her parole review began approximately six months prior to this eligibility date.

The review process involved an Institutional Parole Officer compiling a confidential file that included court documents, offense reports, support and protest letters, criminal history, and statements from Saldivar herself. The file was then submitted to a three-member parole panel, where a simple majority vote was required for a decision.

Following a thorough review of all materials and interviews, the panel unanimously denied parole. The reason cited was the Nature of the Offense, stating:

"The record indicates that the instant offense has elements of brutality, violence, assaultive behavior, or conscious selection of victim’s vulnerability indicating a conscious disregard for the lives, safety, or property of others, such that the offender poses a continuing threat to public safety."

The parole board has scheduled Saldivar’s next parole review for March 2030.

Saldívar, who managed Selena’s fan club and boutique business, had recently been fired after being caught embezzling money. Selena reportedly agreed to meet with her on the day of the murder to retrieve missing financial documents. Instead, Saldívar shot the 23-year-old singer in the back with a .38-caliber revolver, killing her.

The 1995 murder of Selena sent shockwaves across the world and left an indelible mark on Latin music history. Her legacy continues to inspire generations of fans.
