Man Fatally Shot by Chandler Police After Domestic Violence Call Turns Dangerous
Chandler, AZ — A tragic situation unfolded this afternoon in a quiet Chandler neighborhood after a domestic violence call turned deadly.
Just after 12:15 PM, Chandler Police officers responded to a home near the 600 block of E. Commonwealth Ave. after several 911 calls came in. Witnesses reported that an elderly neighbor was seen asking for help, saying there had been a heated argument with a family member.
One caller told dispatchers that a 27-year-old man involved in the argument was armed with a knife and had made suicidal and threatening statements toward a relative.
When officers arrived, they found the man outside the home, still holding the knife. Officers immediately gave him clear commands to drop the weapon, but he refused to comply. According to police, the man then ran toward an officer with the knife in hand, leading to a confrontation that ended in gunfire.
Officers performed life-saving efforts on the scene before the man was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld until his family can be notified.
This incident is now under investigation, and more details are expected to be released in the coming days.
