Mesa, AZ – Mesa Police have arrested 18-year-old Devin Moll for the 2024 shooting death of 23-year-old Gavin Wadzinski, bringing closure to a case that had remained unsolved for nearly a year. Moll was taken into custody on April 1, 2025, and charged with one count of Second-Degree Murder. He is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond.
The shooting occurred on April 21, 2024, around 1:00 a.m. near 4055 N. Recker Road, where officers found Wadzinski dead on a sidewalk from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite extensive efforts, investigators were initially unable to identify any witnesses or clear suspects.
However, Mesa detectives persisted. Through a series of search warrants and interviews, investigators learned that Wadzinski had arranged to buy both a firearm and marijuana from Moll, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident. Moll provided a description of the vehicle he’d be arriving in for the meeting.
Detectives then used traffic surveillance footage to identify a vehicle matching that description, notable for its distinctive headlight pattern. By tracing the car’s movements across multiple surveillance cameras, police were able to map a path that led them directly to Moll.
According to Form 4, there was some initial confusion in statements regarding the transaction — first suggesting a mutual trade of items — but later clarified through interviews that Gavin intended to purchase both the firearm and drugs for a set price from Moll.
The successful arrest of Devin Moll not only brings a measure of justice to the Wadzinski family but also caps off 2024 with a 100% homicide clearance rate for the Mesa Police Department — a significant achievement for local law enforcement.
Mesa PD emphasized that multiple units contributed countless hours of investigative work to ensure all evidence was accounted for and properly used in securing Moll’s arrest.
