Hillsborough County: DUI Crash Leaves Florida Highway Patrol Corporal Injured on I-75
Hillsborough County, FL — April 10, 2025 — A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Corporal was hospitalized early Thursday morning after a suspected DUI driver crashed into his patrol vehicle in an active construction zone on I-75, according to FHP officials.
The area was clearly designated with arrow boards, signage, and bright orange cones with retro-reflective tape. Inside the work zone, an FHP Corporal was stationed in a marked Chevy Tahoe patrol vehicle with emergency lights activated.

The Blazer collided with the rear of the patrol car, causing significant disabling damage to both vehicles. Emergency crews responded quickly, transporting the FHP Corporal to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver, identified as Vaughn Charles Donaldson, was also transported for treatment of minor injuries. Upon release, Donaldson was arrested by FHP troopers and now faces multiple charges, including DUI, DUI Property Damage, and DUI Personal Injury.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about driver awareness in work zones and the dangers law enforcement officers face daily while performing their duties roadside.
FHP reminds drivers to stay alert, obey all posted signage, and always move over or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles.
