Mesa, AZ - A fatal single-vehicle crash early this morning claimed the life of a 58-year-old driver in Mesa.
According to the Mesa Police Department, the collision occurred at 5:49 AM on Ray Road at the 24 Gateway Freeway overpass. The vehicle was traveling eastbound toward Ellsworth Road when it veered to the right and struck a cement pillar supporting the overpass.
The driver, identified as Lyman Cass, was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities suspect speed played a role in the crash, but the exact circumstances remain under investigation. No other vehicles were involved.
