Lee County, FL. - A fugitive who escaped from a Puerto Rican prison nearly 40 years ago has been captured in Lee County, Florida, thanks to the swift work of local authorities.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Puerto Rican authorities reached out regarding Jorge Milla-Valdes, who escaped from prison in 1987 and was believed to be hiding in Lee County under the alias Luis Aguirre. Investigators discovered that under this name, Milla-Valdes had an extensive criminal history, including robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in Monroe County.

LCSO’s Fugitive Warrants Unit immediately launched a search and obtained original fingerprints from 1986 in Puerto Rico, along with a more recent set from his criminal record in Monroe County.

🚨 The Breakthrough:

🔹 Latent Fingerprints Supervisor Tina Carver expedited the fingerprint comparison.

🔹 Within 15 minutes, she confirmed that Luis Aguirre and Jorge Milla-Valdes were the same person.

🔹 The Fugitive Warrants Unit acted immediately, and within two hours, Milla-Valdes was located in Fort Myers Shores and taken into custody.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno’s Statement:

“Thanks to the hard work and determination of my Fugitive Warrants Unit and Latent Fingerprints Supervisor Tina Carver, a positive fingerprint identification was made within MINUTES. My team’s skill is unmatched at every level; even if your crimes don’t start here in Lee County, I promise, they WILL end here.”

Milla-Valdes is now facing extradition back to Puerto Rico, where he will finally serve his original sentence after nearly four decades on the run.
