MESA, AZ — According to Mesa Fire & Rescue, a potentially dangerous situation unfolded this evening at the Coin Less Laundry located at 730 E Brown Rd in Mesa when thick smoke and chemical fumes began to fill the building, triggering an immediate evacuation.


At approximately 6:30 PM, a concerned citizen dialed 911 reporting visible smoke and a strong chemical odor inside the facility. According to the caller, the building was quickly evacuated as visibility worsened and breathing became difficult for staff and customers.

Within minutes, Mesa Fire & Rescue arrived on scene, with multiple fire units responding under the command of the East Deputy Fire Chief. Crews entered the smoke-filled building and launched a rapid investigation. The source of the emergency was quickly pinpointed — a wall-mounted dryer had malfunctioned, producing smoke and releasing fumes into the air.


Firefighters moved swiftly to isolate the dryer, preventing what could have easily escalated into a structure fire or chemical hazard. Using high-powered ventilation systems, they worked to clear the contaminated air and restore safe conditions inside the building.


Simultaneously, three Mesa Police units secured the area, controlling foot and vehicle traffic and assisting in maintaining public safety around the scene.
