Lakeland, FL – What started as a routine traffic crash quickly escalated into a major drug bust when Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) detectives arrested a Bartow man on multiple felony charges, including trafficking methamphetamine, DUI, and possession of illegal substances.

Crash Leads to Shocking Discovery

At approximately 12:25 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, three PCSO detectives came upon a crash at the intersection of US 98 North and Winter Lake Road, south of Lakeland. As they worked to assess the scene, 60-year-old Jimmy Edward Wyndham, the driver of a silver Ford F-150, stepped out of his vehicle.

Wyndham claimed he had fallen asleep at the wheel, but detectives quickly noticed signs of erratic behavior, including profuse sweating. Then, in a surprising move, he voluntarily handed one of the detectives a baggie of methamphetamine.

Major Drug Seizure

Detectives immediately conducted a search and uncovered:

  • 41.30 grams of methamphetamine in two baggies in Wyndham’s right pocket

  • A black bag inside the vehicle containing:

    • 17.45 grams of meth

    • 4.33 grams of marijuana

    • 2 grams of cocaine

  • A shotgun shell in the center console

When questioned, Wyndham admitted to using meth just 5-10 minutes before the crash and confessed that he was on his way to complete drug sales when the accident happened.

Fortunately, the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash were uninjured.

Felony Charges

Wyndham was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail on a long list of charges, including:

  • Trafficking in Methamphetamine over 28 grams (Felony)

  • Possession of Methamphetamine With Intent to Sell (Felony)

  • Possession of Marijuana (Misdemeanor)

  • Possession of Cocaine (Felony)

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor)

  • Keeping a Motor Vehicle for Drugs (2nd violation) (Felony)

  • Possession of Ammunition by a Convicted Felon (Felony)

  • Tampering with Physical Evidence (Felony)

  • DUI (Misdemeanor)

  • DUI with Property Damage (Misdemeanor)
