Arizona State Trooper Injured in DUI Collision on I-10 in Buckeye

Buckeye, AZ — An Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) State Trooper was injured this evening after a DUI-related crash on Interstate 10 in Buckeye.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., the trooper was parked on the right shoulder of westbound I-10 near milepost 117, finishing paperwork from a prior non-injury collision. His patrol vehicle was positioned about 20 feet off the highway on the dirt shoulder when the incident occurred.
A white Dodge Ram 3500 truck, towing a vehicle trailer with three vehicles on board, veered off the highway and collided with the parked patrol unit at a significant speed. The impact caused the trooper’s vehicle to be pushed approximately 60 feet further into the desert shoulder.
The trooper sustained possible head injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he is currently being evaluated to determine the extent of his condition. His identity has not yet been released.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was the sole occupant of the at-fault vehicle and was uninjured. However, authorities confirmed the driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and is currently being processed for DUI and related felony charges.
Arizona DPS continues to investigate the incident and urges drivers to remain alert and sober while on the roadways.
