BREAKING WEATHER ALERT: Tornado Watch Issued for Parts of Texas and Louisiana

🚨 SEVERE WEATHER THREAT THIS AFTERNOON 🚨

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK, has issued Tornado Watch #66, effective until 7:00 PM CDT today for portions of Southeast and East Texas, Western Louisiana, and surrounding coastal waters.


🔴 Areas Affected:

  • Western Louisiana

  • Southeast & East Texas

  • Nearby Gulf Coast Waters


This watch includes cities such as Natchitoches, LA and Port Arthur, TX. The watch zone extends roughly 60 miles east and west of a line from 55 miles WNW of Natchitoches, LA to 10 miles ESE of Port Arthur, TX.


⚠️ Primary Threats:

  • 🌪️ A couple of tornadoes possibleEF2+ tornadoes have a low chance, but still possible under the right storm conditions.

  • 💨 Isolated wind gusts up to 65 knots (75 mph) – LOW likelihood

  • 🌩️ Large hail up to 2 inches in diameter – VERY LOW likelihood


⛈️ Forecast Summary:

Scattered thunderstorms are intensifying as the atmosphere becomes increasingly unstable and moist across the region. Conditions are ripe for supercell formation, especially this afternoon into the early evening. These types of storms are capable of producing tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and hail. While the likelihood of widespread severe weather is moderate to low, any developing supercells could quickly become dangerous.

  • Severe turbulence expected

  • Surface wind gusts up to 60 knots

  • Thunderstorm tops may reach 45,000 feet

  • Tornadic activity possible near air routes
